Our #RMOTD – Olya Polyakova

Hello my readers! It’s been a while since I’ve shared some Russian music, so here’s a special one for ya.

Meet Olya – Russian Singer with a thing for meticulous headpieces

I happen to stumble upon this first song because I was intrigued with the thumbnail. After her sudden sneezing freaked the FRACK outta me, the chorus was surprisingly better than I’ve expected!

At first, the song may seem like your regular Russian pop song but it has some mixed folk in it… more obvious in the chorus especially when you hear her “yodeling” (which was what hooked me to this song in the first place!)

What makes this so interesting is because of how she (sexually) portrays herself in the video, prancing around silly (and almost naked) with close-ups on her chest and butt – yet making a huge contrast to the music! Her “moaning” and “yodeling” makes this surprisingly hypnotic and fresh.

She also seems to be a fan of huge-arse headpieces (I guess that’s “her thing”…?) and I could sense some Gaga influence in her with these.

A blatant rip-off of Psy’s Gangnam Style, the Gaga parody is real in this one. I’m not really sure if she adores the lady or just plain out poking fun of her! Anywho, I have no idea what Olya’s saying at the start but it cracked me up anyway haha. 😀

A song with a quirky Eastern (Chinese) instruments mixed in.

The pointy cheeks reminds me of one of Gaga’s album art cover but the headpiece reminds me of Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent AHHHH!! ?_?

I am utterly in love with her headpieces!

In conclusion, Olya, while not particularly mindblowing on the vocal aspects, is still an entertaining singer who knows not to take herself too seriously and whose music videos are fun to watch.
